Between 1968 and 1976, BMW made one of it's first cars that might be included in the 'Ultimate Driving Experience' catagory. BMW had produced the 2002 forerunner, the 1600-2 in 1966 and '67. Then in 1968 the '02 was first offered and found an immediate following. It continues to this day.

The pics on this page are of my 1972 2002tii. I got my first BMW in 1994, a 525i for daily driving. I was hooked. The car was great to drive, and safer than any other auto I'd ever owned. After several years, I wanted to get a second car that would (hopefully) be my fun car. I finally settled on the 2002 model. But where to find a car that was in the kind of condition that I wanted?

I always liked the 2002, but found most fell into two catagories. Either they were rolling rust buckets that needed lots of attention (cheap though), or they were total from top to bottom restorations or heavily modified (too expensive). Lucky for me, I happened to find a machine that was half way in between. All the typical rust areas repaired, all the mechanicals updated, but not exactly a concours competitor. This suits me fine since I'm not really a mechanic and don't have the time for major repairs anyway.

The web is great for finding anything that you are looking for. Unfortunetly, this car was for sale in Ottawa, Ontario. That's a long way from my Oklahoma home. To ship a car that far, or to rent the gear to tow it was way too expensive. So, I flew to Ottawa, and drove it home! A 1380 mile trip.

The interior is in very good condition. The dash is a replacement and has some cracks in the usual places, but overall not bad. The original 'blue dot' radio is there and functioning. The dash clock is there and is also in working order. The seats are the originial type if not the actual ones that came with the car. They are in great shape. The floor carpeting looks to be the originals as well. All it really needs is a good cleaning.

The Bilstein shocks, Eibach spring combination lowers the car slightly and gives the car an incredibly solid feel when in motion. The wheels are 15" 325i sport wheels. Pretty cool. I feel lucky to have gotten a great example of a wonderful auto.
